J. A. Gonzales
I'm an artist from East Tawakoni in the piney woods of East Texas, baptized in Cash, and a perennial theatre kid. My artistic journey began with the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, where my brother and I would mess around on Mario Paint for hours at a time. The SNES was soon followed up with the PlayStation 2 where I played my first video games on my own. Ratchet & Clank and Kingdom Hearts were the catalysts for my first works: drawings and descriptions of items, levels, graphics, and gameplay for fictional video games of my own.
I would share these ideas with my friends, and they would share their comics with me, and I'd make my own comics in turn. I remember passing my journal around to classmates inviting them to add their own stuff to the collectoin. This was in elementary and middle school. Around freshman year I started making up card games for us to actually play and building worlds as a dungeon master for D&D campaigns. I still keep those journals and notes; they remind me of when I was more spontaneous and not so self-concious.
2018, my senior year of high school, is when I wrote my first play, and was the first time that I considered myself an artist. It's also when I started writing down ideas in the notes in my phone; some of those notes have been in there for about eight years at this point! I'll get to them someday soon... And there must be something about graudating that spurs me on, because in 2020, my last year at community college, I composed my first piece of music! Since then, plays, music, and games have been my main creative pillars.
